Cookies in Space

In 2019, DoubleTree by Hilton’s signature chocolate chip cookie became the first food to be baked in space. To celebrate its induction into the National Air and Space Museum, I was originally tasked with creating a logo and lapel pin graphic, but the occasion called for something bigger. Inspired by the design language of space mission patches, I developed two creative concepts to commemorate this historic (and delicious!) milestone.

Role: Sr. Designer

The warm chocolate chip cookie guests receive at check-in is one of the most memorable parts of the DoubleTree experience. To capture that moment of surprise and delight, this concept reimagines the cookie as a celestial object reflected in the visor of an astronaut’s helmet. The result is a larger-than-life visual metaphor that mirrors the joy of an iconic brand moment, on Earth and beyond.

Much like the U.S. made history by putting a man on the moon, DoubleTree earned its own place in space history when its cookie became the first food baked in space. This concept leans into the familiar visual language of space exploration, positioning DoubleTree among celebrated pioneers with a playful twist. By borrowing elements from the moon landing, a balance is struck between honoring a historic achievement and highlighting DoubleTree’s own contribution to space history—one that, like NASA’s, earned a place in the Smithsonian.
